General Description
The Grounds Worker performs semi-skilled work in maintaining caring for and improving campus grounds and landscapes. Responsibilities include operating electric and gasoline-powered equipment using hand and power tools for planting and trimming and performing routine maintenance on tools and addition to groundskeeping the role includes light maintenance such as changing bulbs pressure washing painting minor carpentry plumbing and electrical repairs as well as delivering supplies and setting up for campus needs.
Distinguishing Features
Employees in this role focus on maintaining campus grounds and facilities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and is subject to regular inspection and review.
Mow lawns and trim grass around walkways flower beds and walls.
Prune shrubs and trees to promote growth and maintain appearance.
Remove damaged branches leaves and debris using hand and power tools.
Collect and dispose of trash and litter from campus grounds.
Maintain hard surfaces storm drains and other grounds features.
Plant fertilize water and apply herbicides/insecticides to vegetation.
Tend and lay out flower beds and decorative landscaping.
Remove snow and ice from walkways and driveways; spread salt as needed.
Maintain driveways parking lots fences gates walls irrigation systems and outbuildings.
Operate trucks tractors and other grounds maintenance equipment.
Perform minor carpentry masonry painting plumbing and electrical tasks.
Assist with maintenance and repairs of equipment buildings and structures.
Arrange facilities for special events and ensure safety compliance.
Attend required training programs (in-person or virtual).
Comply with all campus and OSHA safety policies; report accidents/injuries promptly.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Medium to heavy work requiring:
50 100 lbs of force occasionally
Up to 50 lbs frequently
Up to 20 lbs constantly
Physical demands: climbing balancing stooping reaching standing walking pushing lifting and grasping.
Requires clear vocal communication normal and high-level hearing ability and visual acuity for measuring machine operation and equipment use.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors often in adverse environmental conditions.
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least one (1) year of full-time labor/trades experience including routine grounds maintenance.
General knowledge of tools materials and equipment used in grounds/maintenance work.
Understanding of safety precautions related to grounds and maintenance equipment.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
