Job Description:
Chem 2 Candidates must have a BS degree in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 12 semester hours in chemistry and any industrial experience . Prior experience and knowledge of boiler/water analysis are preferred. Previous work experience in a water treatment plant and knowledge and experience in the production of
deionized water are also preferred. Experience and competency in the use calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment as well as knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques are desirable. This position requires call-outs and overtime as needed. They must also be able to recognize changes in color for titrations. A chemical technician performs technical and analytical services essential to the operation of a fossil fuel power plant. These services include water treatment and chemical analysis of water and wastewater fuels coal ash and petroleum products. The technician provides chemical protection of the steam-generating equipment to minimize outages due to corrosion and deposits in steam cycle components thereby reducing efficiency loss and the potential need for replacement of steam-generating condensing and turbine mechanical components. Additionally the technician ensures compliance with governmental environmental regulations regarding water discharges and compiles evaluates and reports statistical data pertaining to plant performance and productivity.
Technicians operate and maintain water treatment plants for the production of demineralized and service water and assist in maintaining an onsite sewage treatment plant. They perform analytical testing of boiler water chemistry and scrubber absorber chemistry. Responsibilities include the calibration and maintenance of equipment related to these areas and performing minor maintenance activities such as lubrication. Technicians are also required to perform Hazmat team member duties including respirator qualification to unload hazardous liquid and gaseous chemicals.
