Job Description

TEACHER ASSISTANT/INTERVENTIONIST (TITLE I)

Bethlehem Elementary School

Temporary for the 2025-2026 school year

Part-time (25 hrs/week) with partial benefits

General Statement of Job

The Teacher Assistant/Interventionist depending on the needs of the school may perform a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting the classroom teacher and/or may provide support to students struggling academically.

Required qualifications

  • Associate Degree or 48 semester hours towards an associate degree preferred.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
  • Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students.
  • Collaborates with teachers administration and families.
  • Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instruction; provides one-on-one assistance as needed.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom.
  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom.
  • Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom; assists with crisis prevention.
  • Praises and reinforces achievement of students; promotes self-esteem.

Additional duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and/or teacher.

Essential knowledge and abilities

  • Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills and patience.
  • Experience working with students and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques is strongly encouraged.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical legal and counseling terminology.
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers copiers calculators pencils scissors etc.
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects.
