Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The City of Birmingham is seeking a Parking Enforcement Assistant who will work 24 hours per week under the supervision of the Police Department to perform a variety of duties related to the enforcement of City of Birmingham parking ordinances.

Duties will include patrolling on foot and in a vehicle issuing parking citations providing information and assistance to motorists and pedestrians assisting in a variety of Police Department activities involving civilian personnel and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

The Parking Enforcement Assistant primarily requires outdoor work with exposure to a variety of weather and environmental conditions which may be extreme at times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 1 to 2 years of previous work experience involving substantial public contact.

Valid Michigan Drivers License with good driving record.

High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary coursework in criminal justice or related field preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The work schedule averages 24 hrs. per week (Mon & Thurs: 3 pm-9 pm Fri: 5 pm-9pm Sat: noon-9 pm). Hours will be determined by the police department.

This part-time position starts at $21.78 per hour with annual increases. The maximum rate is reached after 30 months; while it is currently $28.31 per hour it will be higher by the time you reach that step due to the yearly adjustments.
