HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

Job Summary

The School Guidance Counselor at Leominster Center for Technical Education Innovation (CTEi) plays a vital role in supporting the developmental needs of students enrolled in a comprehensive vocational high school with 14 career and technical programs. This position provides guidance in areas such as social/emotional wellness academic success and post-graduate planning. Through counseling consulting coordinating and case management the counselor ensures students are equipped to thrive in both their academic and vocational pathways.

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in School Counseling
  
  
• Appropriate DESE license
  
  
• Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues
  
  
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
  
  
• Ability to use technology effectively

• Ability to work autonomously and make independent decisions
  
  
• Ability to organize tasks set priorities meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities
  
  
• Recognize and understand students individual interests and vocational strengths that can translate into a meaningful academic and post-secondary plan
  
  
• Good judgment and problem-solving skills
  
  
• Strong clinical skills to support social/emotional and substance use/abuse challenges
  
  

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):

• Provide individual and group counseling support to students enrolled in both academic and vocational programs.
  
  
• Support students with their academic social/emotional substance use/abuse and post-graduate planning needs with particular attention to connecting career and technical training to future opportunities.
  
  
• Work collaboratively with counseling colleagues teachers vocational instructors deans and administrators across 14 programs of study.
  
  
• Collect maintain and present student data as appropriate.
  
  
• Attend and participate in parent night events vocational showcases and other school functions as needed.
  
  
• Consult and collaborate with families community organizations and outside agencies to support student needs.
  
  
• Facilitate meetings with relevant stakeholders regarding student well-being and success.
  
  
• Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in school counseling technical education and workforce readiness.
  
  
• Consistent and on-time attendance is required.
  
  
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  
  

Work Environment

The majority of work is performed in an office setting within CTEis vocational high school environment which requires maintaining confidentiality while actively engaging with students staff and families across 14 diverse technical programs.

Massachusetts Teacher Licensure (DESE) (5-12) School Counselor
