- Investigate and develop optical coatings thin films and optical polymer materials including both optically flat and textured or patterned surfaces to control optical and mechanical properties of a coating or polymer films- Identify areas where optical coatings and films can improve display performance and customer experience then design solutions to implement into Apple products- Work with vendors to identify and modify key materials that can enable new optical technologies. Take total ownership to drive technologies from R&D to implementation on real products with multi-functional teams- Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 15%
BS in Material Science Chemistry Chemical Engineering Optics Engineering Physics Physics or related field with a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
Technical experience in optical coatings including both dry and wet coatings surface and interfacial science materials chemistry and inorganic-organic hybrid materials or related
Experience in both development and scaling up of surface patterning processes including nano-imprint lithography mechanical embossing optical design and manufacturing of patterning molds etc. to acquire controllable opto-mechanical properties of coatings and films
Experience with optical and material characterization formulation development of aqueous/non aqueous coatings formulation characterization methods and corresponding wet deposition techniques
MS or PhD in Material Science Chemistry Chemical Engineering Optics Engineering Physics Physics or equivalent
3 years of professional work experience in a related field
Hands-on experience and consistent track record in relevant areas in optical coatings and films including vacuum deposition coatings wet coatings polymer films and optical materials etc.
Expertise in sophisticated process technology development and associated equipments & process enablement including semiconductor manufacturing Roll to Roll manufacturing processes etc.
Experience in design of experiments and corresponding statistical data analysis
Demonstrated ability to solve sophisticated material and interface challenges in a manufacturing setting
Demonstrated knowledge of optical coatings design design of patterned optical surfaces and its implementation into production processes such as roll to roll sheet to sheet etc. including corresponding design rules
Fundamental understanding of optics optical coatings and light-matter interactions for both glossy and matte surfaces
Knowledge of thin film deposition and corresponding metrology methods (ex. PVD CVD ALD wet coatings/processing XPS SEM TEM AFM and XRD etc.)
Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English
Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a multi-functional team
Experience leading domestic and international vendors
