Description

The Team
The Drug Shortages Unit is a small established team made up of pharmacists a policy analyst and an administrator. We work together to strengthen BCs drug supply chain and respond quickly to shortages. Team members collaborate closely with Health Authority supply chain staff and pharmacists in Special Authority and Formulary Management to support temporary drug listing decisions. The team plays a key role in building a stronger drug shortage response in BC by working collaboratively with partners across sectors. We appreciate the teams agile approach thoughtful problem-solving and drive to make a meaningful impact.

The Role
The BC Drug Shortages Pharmacist leads the resolution of community drug shortages and helps build a provincial supply chain surveillance network. Working closely with partners across the health system the role ensures patients continue to receive essential medications through timely and coordinated mitigation strategies. With over 1600 active drug shortage reports in Canada this work is vital to protecting access to care and reducing health impacts. The position offers a chance to shape BCs response to evolving supply chain challenges and contribute to a more resilient health system.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy . (Pharm) or an entry-to-practice Doctor of Pharmacy AND aminimum of 3 years *related experience.
  • Must be a pharmacist licensed to practice in British Columbia or able to complete the registration withinthe first 90 days of employment.

Related Experience must Include:

  • Experience working in a variety of clinical pharmacy practice settings (e.g. acute care communitypharmacy primary care long-term care etc.).
  • Experience implementing new pharmacy programs or services.
  • Experience in critical appraisal of scientific literature

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • An advanced degree (such as a masters or doctorate related to pharmacy) or completion ofaccredited Canadian hospital pharmacy residency program.
  • Experience working on projects initiatives and services related to pharmaceutical supply chain and/or drugshortages.

Preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (e.g. First Nations Mtis or Inuit).

  • In recognition of the critical importance to this role of a lived understanding of Indigenous communities historyvalues and cultural competencies the above preference statement will be applied in the final ranked order forthose who self-identify as Indigenous throughout the hiring process

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until October 29 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position can be based out of Victoria or New Westminster.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
