EFRT is a group of approximately 40 student volunteers who provide emergency medical services to the McMaster Campus. All responders are certified Emergency Medical Responders and are trained to help in any physical or mental health emergency.

EFRT Responders are responsible for taking on a minimum of 4-5 shifts a month. Shifts are either day (8-hour) or night (16-hour) shifts where Responders remain on-call to attend calls as needed. Responders are responsible for completing monthly training their first year on EFRT Responders will complete 3 certification trainings: Emergency First Responder Emergency Medical Responder and Mental Health First Aid. Responders represent EFRT in a responsible professional and respectful manner while on shift and representing EFRT.

Variable but approximately 12* hours per week
*EFRT involves a commitment of approximately 4-5 shifts a month with additional monthly training. During our day (8-hours) or night shifts (16-hours) EFRT responders can attend classes study or sleep in the EFRT office and complete daily tasks when not responding to calls. Successful candidates will also be expected to attend 5 full weekends of certification training spread throughout the school year. These certifications include Emergency First Responder (October 25 & 26 & November 1 & 2) Emergency Medical Responder (November 22 & 23 & January 10 & 11) and Mental Health First Aid (November 15).
