King Countys Office of Risk Management Services is seeking a skilled and dedicated Tort Claims Investigator to help uphold accountability and fairness across King this Career Service role youll play a vital part in evaluating andresolving liability claimsfiled against King County ensuring that each case is handled with integrity precision and compassion

ABOUT THE OFFICE OF RISK MANAGEMENT SERVICES
The Office of Risk Management Services provides external services to the community as well as internal services to King County agencies including:

  • Claims:King County investigates evaluates and resolves claims made against the county in a fair and expeditious manner.
  • Insurance: King County administers a self-insurance program and purchases a variety of other insurance policies and related services consistent with sound risk management practices and the needs of the County.
  • Contracts: Risk Management advises King County agencies on insurance requirements in all types of contracts. Risk Management actively negotiates and together with the Prosecuting Attorneys Office assists agencies in pursuing and tendering claims arising out of contractual relations.
  • Recovery Services: Risk Management is charged with seeking compensation for damages caused to King County property or injury to King County employees by negligent third parties.
  • Enterprise Risk Management Program (ERM): ERM works to proactively identify and assess high priority risks King County owns and improve controls for those risks. The program provides King County departments with consultation data and direct support to improve decision making and action planning.
  • Finance & Administration: provides a wide range of financial and administrative support services to the division including budget accounting and general office support.
  • Open Government: Seeks to deliver government transparency accountability and accessibility through administration of the Public Records (Disclosure) Program Ethics Program Financial Disclosure Program and Lobbyist Disclosure Program.

Job Duties

SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES -To be considered for this opportunity you must at a minimum be able to demonstrate skill and ability to:

  • Evaluatesettlement value and negotiatewith claimants and/or attorneys to resolve claims with liability exposure and bodily injury and property damages.
  • Researchinvestigatecompile and document pertinent information related to third party auto property and liability claims filed against the County.
  • Analyzecomplex claims with regard to negligence proximate cause and comparative negligence in compliance with statutes ordinances King County codes and case law.
  • Evaluatematerials property damage estimates and medical records to determine bodily injury and property damage settlements based on an analysis of liability exposure and damages.
  • Represent King Countyin small claims hearings.
  • Maintaindetailed records of claim investigations negotiations and disposition of claims and lawsuits.
  • Identifymatters to refer for loss control.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO:

  • Have a strong background in tort claims investigations bodily injury and property claims including demonstrated ability to make decisions based on facts and law; OR any combination of education and experience necessary to perform the scope of job duties.
  • Are customer-focused on their approach to working with internal and external clients; Have effective negotiation problem solving communication and analytical skills.
  • Are collaborative in their approach to their daily work and able to work as a member of a team with many different styles.
  • Are comfortable with the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Will champion Equity and Social Justice in their daily work.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING:

  • A background in investigating experience and a working knowledge of Risk Management principals.

Supplemental Information


TELECOMMUTING:The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of remote and onsite work. The successful candidate may be expected to report to the office for onsite work typically 3 times per week. The frequency of onsite work may vary based on business or operational needs and be adjusted accordingly. The primary onsite location is King Street Center 201 S. Jackson Seattle Washington must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the departments hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
