Job Description

Spark Academy seeks excellent teachers or those who are committed to becoming excellent. Our teachers realize that an incredibly important part of teaching is motivating students to want to work hard and learn as much as possible. As such we work to recruit teachers who work to be an incredibly positive strong energetic presence in the lives of our children and have a track record of leading their students to significant academic growth. Our teachers are dedicated to working towards closing the achievement gap. Teachers at Spark Academy are responsible for the academic success of their students by designing standards-based rigorous lesson plans and implementing research-based teaching strategies in a highly engaging well-managed addition our teachers work to continuously improve curriculum and instruction through daily collaboration with colleagues as well as intensive targeted professional development with administrators. Because the work of teaching is difficult and relies on collaboration we seek teachers who are committed to building a positive high-achieving school culture both for our students as well as our Take responsibility to be a strong positive force daily in his/her classroom consistently and thoughtfully motivate students to work hard and want to learn;Design and implement high quality curricula that incorporate research-based strategies to help students master Massachusetts and Common Core standards;Motivate students to reach high achievement by setting class-wide and individual goals and provide specific and actionable feedback to students on their progress towards academic goals;Build supportive working relationships with fellow teachers as well as associate teachersEngage in weekly professional development and intensive coaching with administration and colleagues and embrace a growth mindset to actively improve instruction curriculum and management;Wholeheartedly embrace school-wide systems to ensure consistency within the school learning community to ensure smooth transitions between classes and grades for all students e.g. school-wide writing rubric annotation strategies behavior system;Use school-wide behavior system to establish strong classroom culture consistent routines and high expectations for students to ensure that culture is uniform throughout the school and thus ensuring the least amount of learning time is wasted; Build trusting relationships with students and families in an advisory setting of up to 12 students while also supporting students to gain a deeper understanding of our school values: Seeking Justice Perseverance Active Living Reason and responsibilities as needed and assigned by administration. Qualifications Alignment with the Academys core beliefs and educational philosophy is Massachusetts License in subject required; Driven to improve the minds and lives of students by being hardworking and a positive presence;Proven track-record of high student achievement;Mastery of and enthusiasm for academic subject;Willingness to be a team player and collaborate with colleagues;A growth mindset to take in and act upon feedback given by coaches and colleagues;Two years teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred;Fluency in Spanish preferred.**Note: this is a leave coverage position.
