Responsibilities
- Providing one-on-one student support and supervision in the classroom in support of both the individual student and an overall safe and stimulating educational environment.
- Utilizing the student profile to proactively plan preparing and developing various teaching aids for use in the classroom to support student success including activity sheets drawings and similar handouts.
- Providing redirection as needed to support appropriate classroom behaviors.
- Supervising and supporting student breaks from the classroom as needed.
- Supporting the student in learning to identify and proactively prepare for challenges such as sensory stimuli social discomfort etc. and to develop strategies for self-regulating and returning to class.
- Presenting and reinforcing class subject matter to the student under the guidance of a teacher utilizing a variety of methods including stories discussions and role-playing as needed.
- Assisting the student with assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
- In the absence of the teacher may confer with parents on student progress.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Patient flexible positive consistent dependable creative and cooperative with a sense of humor
- Mental stamina to work positively with students for the length of scheduled workday
- Sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations
- Experience working with gifted/LD students a plus
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
