Job Summary:
This Respiratory Therapist position requires a minimum of one year of experience and involves providing respiratory care to adult patients in an acute care and long-term care setting. The role includes managing ventilators performing various respiratory treatments and collaborating with the healthcare team. Call and weekend coverage are required.
Location: Rochester New York United States.
Responsibilities:
- Providing respiratory care to adult patients in the Emergency Department and Adult Critical Care unit.
- Managing ventilators (Hamilton Vents) and related equipment (AirVO2 Volara Metaneb Aerogen EPIC).
- Performing procedures such as endotracheal intubation/extubation suctioning (various types) airway placement and sputum collection.
- Administering respiratory treatments including BiPAP CPAP High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and nebulizer treatments.
- Troubleshooting ventilator alarms and weaning patients from mechanical ventilation.
- Monitoring and documenting patient vital signs respiratory status and treatment responses.
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Rotating between long-term care and acute care settings.
- Providing weekend coverage (every other weekend).
- Responding to call requests (preferred but not mandatory).
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum one year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
- BLS certification.
- RRT certification.
- Proficiency in various respiratory techniques (endotracheal tube/suctioning extubation intubation assist etc.).
- Experience with various respiratory equipment (Hamilton Vents AirVO2 Volara Metaneb Aerogen EPIC BiPAP CPAP HFNC).
- Ability to manage patients with chronic respiratory failure stroke and ventilator dependency.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Prior experience in emergency or critical care environments.
Special Considerations:
- Call is required (preferred but not mandatory).
- Weekend coverage is required (every other weekend).
- Float between long-term care and acute care settings is required.
- Patient ratios for nights are 1:10.
- Unit has 10 chronic vent patients and 14 additional patients with various respiratory needs.
- Must be comfortable working with patients requiring various respiratory support modalities.
Scheduling:
- Shift type and schedule details not provided. Weekend and call coverage are required. Shift assignments are likely to rotate.
