The legal profession is evolving - and so should your career. Cognia Laws Legal Graduate Program offers you the chance to explore a different side of law where innovation and technology meet legal expertise. Youll be part of a collaborative team and receive in-depth training.

Over the course of this 12-month program based in Cape Town youll gain hands-on experience across our legal service lines from data collection and document review to transactional due diligence on global matters. Youll also have the opportunity to gain insight into legal technology. All work is carried out under the guidance of senior associates and managers giving you the skills exposure and professional confidence to stand out in your legal career.

This program is designed for forward-thinking graduates who are curious about legal technology process optimisation and the future of law who want to combine their legal knowledge with cutting-edge tools to help shape the next chapter of the profession.

Requirements
  • Law degree from a top SA tertiary institution.
  • Languages: English spoken and written (required).
  • Preference will be given to EE candidates.
  • Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work both independently and as an integral part of a team.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Developed skills in legal drafting.
  • Commercial proactive and business-like mindset.
  • A good grasp of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Be comfortable using technology and eager to learn new digital tools
  • Demonstrated interest in legal technology AI innovation or emerging areas of law (e.g. intellectual property cryptocurrency law data privacy) will be an advantage.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to operate well in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong team player.
  • Risk sensitivity and the ability to know when to escalate an issue.
