Job Description

DEFINITION OF POSITION: The selected candidate will be responsible for planning and carrying out quality fitness movement sport and health instruction for grades 6-8.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Middle School Principal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or be eligible for a Washington State Teaching Certificate with a health & fitness endorsement
  • Successful teaching substituting or student teaching experience in health and/or fitness

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one additional curricular certification at the middle level
  • A. in health & fitness or other related middle level discipline
  • Experience and/or desire to coach or lead an extracurricular academic team or ASB club

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Fulfill all teaching assignments effectively
  • Work cooperatively with other grade level teachers and staff members in the school
  • Practice effective teaching techniques/strategies for this age
  • Plan organize and teach health fitness individual and team sport activities as well as movement dance and tumbling
  • Plan and develop quality instructional experiences regularly followed by appropriate assessment and feedback for students and parents
  • Select and/or create instructional lessons to appropriately support adopted materials
  • Organize the physical setting to contribute to an environment conducive to learning
  • Organize individual small group or large group learning experiences as appropriate to the students subject matter and outcomes desired
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in safety and spotting techniques
  • Maintain accurate records of student information and assessment data with ability to access information upon request or as needed
  • Manage students and instructional equipment/material in instructional areas
  • Manage student behavior and classroom climate for effective student learning
  • Recognize conditions that may lead to disciplinary problems
  • Understand the unique needs of pre-adolescent middle level students
  • Knowledgeable of the Essential Academic Learning Requirements related to health & fitness
  • Manage and monitor supply inventory
  • Possess basic computer skills
  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff parents community members other agencies etc.)
  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance actions decisions and overall performance
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible
  • Participate in building/all school activities with willingness to serve on committees and/or as student activities advisor

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: $55318 - $104265 per year placement based on experience and level of education
  • Length of Contract: 0 FTE 180 days plus professional development days leave replacement positionfor the 2025-2026 school year only
  • Leaves/Benefits: Medical dental vision life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the PullmanEducation Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District (PEA Bargaining Agreement).
