JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Chaiken Center for Student Success in the College of the Liberal Arts Office of Undergraduate Studies (LAUS) has 1 Change of Campus Lead Mentor position starting Fall semester Fall 2025. The primary work is in one-on-one appointments helping liberal arts change-of-campus students with developing transition strategies including navigating the college and university resources. The Lead mentor will have the opportunity to create coordinate and lead peer engagement workshops promote and market programming and work in a student success team in the Center as well in close collaboration with the director and coordinator. The Change of Campus Lead Mentor will work up to 10 hours a week during the Chaiken Center for Student Success hours (MondayThursday 8:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m. Friday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.). The Lead mentor also must attend a bi-weekly meeting with the director.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing mentoring for change-of-campus students
Holding drop-in hours in the Chaiken Center to meet with mentees
Helping coordinate events for change-of-campus students with the Director of the Chaiken Center for Student Success
Tabling at resource events on behalf of change-of-campus student outreach for the college
Help with outreach communication efforts to a targeted student population
Collaborating with other college units and student organizations to promote and provide information about their programming and events
Strong preference will be given to undergraduate students enrolled in majors offered by the College of the Liberal Arts who transitioned to University Park as a Change of Campus student from a Commonwealth campus. Students must also be interested in helping other students navigate similar challenges. This position is for the 2025-2026 academic year with a possibility of rehiring.
The Chaiken Center for Student Success in the College of the Liberal Arts was established in the Fall of 2021 to provide holistic support for students academic personal and professional goals. We help liberal arts students with time management study strategies goal setting self-advocacy strategies and navigating college and university resources.
Successful candidates must be committed to the Centers should have the ability to create/maintain an inclusive and respectful environment for all students. Additional competencies expected from the successful candidate include the ability to communicate effectively work independently and collaboratively as part of a team effectively managing multiple responsibilities and desire to be a part of establishing new college initiatives focused on helping students transition successfully from the Commonwealth campuses to University Park by providing guidance and mentoring.
