As a Claims Assistant in the IEL Claims Department you will provide essential administrative support to ensure the smooth handling of cargo claims. You will be responsible for managing the department inbox fielding incoming claims-related calls and processing All-Risk Insurance requests submitted by IEL brokers through Aons online portal. This role is crucial in helping the Claims team stay organized responsive and compliant with internal procedures while maintaining a high level of service to both internal teams and external partners. This position reports to the Claims Supervisor.
Position Description (Essential Duties & Responsibilities):
- Monitor and maintain the Claims Department inbox ensuring timely responses or escalation as needed
- Handle incoming calls related to cargo claims providing initial assistance or directing inquiries appropriately
- Process All-Risk Insurance certificate requests from brokers using Aons online system ensuring timely and accurate submissions
- Accurately log and organize relevant claim documentation in IELs systems
- Communicate professionally with brokers customers and carriers to gather basic claim information
- Support Claims Specialists in maintaining up-to-date files and tracking claim progress
- Maintain internal checklists and records to ensure all administrative steps are completed consistently
- Perform other administrative tasks and department support duties as assigned
Knowledge / Skills / Experience:
Basic (Required):
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook Excel and Word
- Professional and clear verbal/written communication skills
- Ability to handle high call and email volumes while maintaining composure and professionalism
Preferred:
- Previous experience in logistics transportation or claims administration
- Experience using claims or document management systems
- Customer service or front-line communication experience in a business setting
