Position Summary
Project Eagle is an early childhood program focused on preparing children engaging families and promoting excellence for children and families in Kansas City Kansas. Project Eagle provides home-based and center-based services to pregnant women and/or children ages birth to five through a variety of programs the largest being Early Head Start. The Home Visitor provides intensive home-based early childhood education parenting education and family support services to voluntary participants in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards. The Home Visitor focuses on the four cornerstones of Early Head Start child development family development community building and staff development to empower families in the areas of parenting child development health nutrition mental health and self-sufficiency by using outcome based interventions. The Home Visitor teaches problem-solving skills and refers families to community resources and existing service systems to promote independence.

Job Description:

Job Duties

  • Provide structured child-focused home visiting that promotes the parents ability to support the childs cognitive social emotional and physical development beginning prenatally through age three. Deliver all services and education to families in accordance with program policies/procedures and Head Start Performance accordance with Head Start Performance Standards maintain a caseload of ten to twelve families.

  • Use an effective strength based approach to parenting education encouraging parents as their childs first and most important teacher through modeling coaching and guidance. Promote emergent literacy using research-based methods and strategies to support the development of literacy and language skills for all children. Develop and implement weekly prenatal care lesson plans that support the health and well being of pregnant women to prenatal and early child development.

  • Develop and implement weekly early childhood education lesson plans that support each childs development using the Growing Great Kids curriculum or other curricula.

  • Complete developmental assessments on all children less than four years of age according to Head Start Performance Standards as well as track developmental screenings related to health: Kan Be Healthy Exams vision hearing lead.

  • Develop and maintain current Individual Family Partnership Agreements for all families on caseload establishing goals reporting outcomes brokering and referring for services and documenting progress. Approach difficult family and individual issues in a positive manner that leads to growth to promote effective strategies that can be used to cope with crisis. Teach adults how to effectively communicate with and utilize support services within the community to meet their goals regarding early education healthcare education and employment through role modeling and supported experiences.

  • Promptly document all interventions according to program procedures and notify supervisor and appropriate coordinator immediately of any unusual or at risk situations. Complete weekly paperwork on time as required by program guidelines including lesson plans home visit tracking records contact notes checklists and forms. This includes accurate data entry of information as assigned according to program guidelines. Maintain organized and confidential working and permanent files for each family on caseload.

  • Participate in monthly staff meetings quarterly retreats and various conferences as requested. Participate in weekly trainings or others as scheduled. Participate in and support the involvement of families in the Policy Council and parent/child socializations and community groups.

  • Identify and respond to various experiences of Project Eagle participants.

Work Environment

  • The Early Head Start Bilingual Home Visitor will deliver year-round home-based services on a flexible schedule including some evening hours to meet the needs of families.

  • This position requires driving and access to a personal vehicle on a daily basis.

Required Qualifications

Meet one of the following education requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education Child and Family Development Social Work or related area.

  • An Associate degree in a related field plus two years relevant experience.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices enhances collaboration with external partners and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.

License/Certifications:

  • A valid drivers license.

Work Experience:

  • Experience teaching child development and parenting skills to adults and delivering family support services.

  • Experience working with children ages birth to three.

  • Computer experience as evidenced by application materials.

  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with families co-workers and community members to develop client-centered services.

  • Experience assessing individual and family dynamics.

Languages:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Masters degree or graduate level course work in any of the required discipline areas.

Work Experience:

  • Two years of successful experience using a strengths-based family support approach teaching and/or delivering services in the following areas: prenatal education early childhood education and parenting education.

  • Experience delivering home-based services.

  • Experience writing family goals or Individualized Family Partnership Agreements.

  • Knowledge of resources in Wyandotte County as demonstrated by application materials.

  • Experience in completing comprehensive assessments covering all areas affecting family functioning.

Comprehensive Benefits Package:

Coverage begins on day one for health dental and vision insurance and includes health expense accounts with generous employer contributions if the employee participates in a qualifying health plan. Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
