This is an Engineering Specialist I position in the Division 4 Project Development Unit. This position performs advanced level technical work supporting Engineers in administration and execution of various division managed projects. This position will report to the Division DDC Engineer.
In this role you will:
- Monitor the scope schedule and budget for all Division safety projects and provide reports to senior staff.
- Assist the DDC Engineer with work-day estimate reviews interdisciplinary coordination (review or plan production) and general project coordination for all safety projects and other in-house design projects.
- Assist the DDC Engineer with review of roadway plans for various Division managed projects.
- Assist the DDC Engineer by preparing contract pay items quantities and provisions for safety projects to ensure complete PS&E packages and contracts.
- Review all Division resurfacing maps SOQs pay items quantities and provisions for accuracy before submission to the Division Contract Engineer.
- Collect field data through GPS and other means as directed by senior staff.
- Prepare funding level estimates for safety contingency high impact low cost economic development and other miscellaneous projects.
- Manage and track all Agreements within Division 4 between NCDOT and various third parties.
- Maintain the Division 4 curb ramp inventory and prepare curb ramp improvement projects
Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Experience in contract administration and/or contract development.
- Computer experience including office software (Excel Access Adobe) and plan reading software (Adobe / Bluebeam etc).
- Knowledge of mathematical functions such as algebra geometry and trigonometry.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans contract provisions specifications and procedures
Additional Expectations:
Ability to attain competency in SAP-based financial and project management tools and applications.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associates degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive technician experience; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
