Open to Physiotherapists & Occupational Therapists 

Band 6: 38682 - 46580

Permanent contract

Full time hours: 37.5 per week

We are currently looking for a Senior Therapist (Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist) to work in the Short Stay Unit under the scope of the Urgent Care Therapy team.

Our SSU delivers rapid goal-focused therapy to support safe timely discharged for patient with an expected stay of up to 72 hours. Working as part of a proactive MDT therapists provide regular sessions to maximise independence reduce onward rehab need and minimise care packages. This fast-paced setting is ideal for those who enjoy collaborative working quick decision-making and seeing immediate results from their interventions. 

Job Summary

  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work including the management of patients in your care.
  • To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations /multi pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition.
  • Formulate and deliver an individual therapy treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills e.g. manual physiotherapy techniques patient education exercise classes and other alternative options.
  • To identify health and social care problems requiring assessment /intervention from other agencies and with the consent of the patient action those referrals
  • To take delegated responsibility from the Physiotherapy Team Leader for managing patients with conditions specific to the speciality and be responsible for providing specialist therapy assessment and treatment plans.
  • Formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention developing comprehensive care plans in conjunction with the patient and the multi-professional team.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
  • To keep accurate legible records of patient care in line with service guidelines
  • To supervise and manage junior staff within the team. 
  • Weekend working will be expected

Qualifications :

Essential

  • Health Care Professions Council Registration
  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy Occupational Therapy or equivalent

Experience

  • 18 months 2 years post qualification experience
  • Evidence of student or therapy assistant supervision
  • Evidence of working in a team situation
