Job Description

Duration: 12-months with option to renew
Start Date: September 15th 2025 (negotiable)
Salary Range: $55000-$65000/ year commensurate with experience

Location: Antigonish NS Note: this is flexible and could be a remote or hybrid position provided the candidate resides in Nova Scotia

Overview:

REACH is a newly established research lab based in the Interdisciplinary Health Program at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish NS. It is led by Dr. Jill Murphy Assistant Professor and Research Chair in Mental Health and Addictions. The REACH Lab undertakes collaborative equity-focused health services and implementation science research examining challenges related to equitable access to mental health care both globally and locally. With funding from Research Nova Scotia (RNS) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) current projects include examining the priorities and needs of rural Nova Scotians related to community-based mental health care and co-designing and testing a mental health promotion app among high school students in Vietnam.

The Research Manager will work under the supervision of Dr. Murphy and with other research staff and students to support the activities of the lab. The Research Manager will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other researchers and partners from across Nova Scotia Canada and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

The Research Manager will support the administrative activities of REACH including grant management (e.g. ethics applications budget management reporting) scheduling meetings and research activities liaising with study partners and supporting research funding applications. The Research Manager will also support lab research activities including data collection and analysis preparation of manuscripts and other knowledge translation and communications outputs.

Qualifications:

  • A completed masters degree in health sciences mental health public health global health or another relevant field. Candidates with undergraduate degrees will be considered based on relevant experience.
  • An interest in mental health mental health services health equity global mental health and/or digital mental health approaches. People with lived experience of mental health conditions are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while taking initiative to keep projects on track.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and work towards deadlines.
  • Experience collaborating with historically marginalized and/or equity-deserving populations including people with lived and living experience of mental health conditions.
  • Experience in research including:
    • Preparing submissions to research ethics boards
    • Preparing research funding applications
    • Conducting literature reviews and evidence summaries
    • Data collection and analysis (experience in mixed methods research will be considered an asset but candidates with either qualitative or quantitative experience are encouraged to apply)
    • Writing for scientific publication
    • Preparing knowledge translation and communications materials (e.g. plain language summaries infographics social media posts)
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • The location of this position is flexible and a remote working arrangement may be considered. Candidates should be able to work independently and be willing and able to occasionally travel to Antigonish and/or other study sites in Northeastern Nova Scotia meaning that only applicants living in Nova Scotia will be considered.

Supervision Provided:

The Research Manager will work under the supervision of Dr. Jill Murphy. Weekly lab meetings will be held and ad hoc meetings between the Research Manager Dr. Murphy and other lab staff will occur as needed. Training will be provided as required.
