Job Summary
PTS is looking for a Welding Engineer to join a leading OEM of Energy Equipment. Were looking for a hands-on welding expert who can fine-tune processes solve problems fast and help us build top-quality heavy steel products. If youre equally comfortable running trials training welders and collaborating with engineers this role is for you.
What Youll Do
- Develop and maintain welding procedures for SAW GMAW FCAW GTAW and automated processes.
- Optimize welding parameters using advanced gear like the Lincoln Power Wave AC/DC 1000.
- Troubleshoot weld issues (porosity incomplete fusion etc.) using tools like 8D and 5-Why.
- Design fixtures manipulators and robotic cells for new products and in-field manufacturing.
- Partner with Quality to resolve NCRs validate repairs and ensure AWS D1.1 compliance.
- Train qualify and support welders; keep continuity records up to date.
- Provide welding input in product design reviews.
- Drive Lean/Six Sigma improvements for throughput cost and first-pass yield.
- Manage welding consumable specs and vendor qualifications.
- Stay current on welding tech and standards; recommend upgrades.
What You Bring
- Bachelors in Welding Engineering Materials Science Mechanical Engineering or related.
- 5 years in heavy steel fabrication (SAW large-diameter pipe/tower welding preferred).
- Strong AWS D1.1 knowledge and welding procedure experience.
- Skilled with advanced welding equipment and waveform analysis.
- CAD proficiency (SolidWorks or Inventor) and strong blueprint reading skills.
- Experience with ISO 9001 and APQP systems.
Bonus Points For
- AWS CWI CWE or SCWI certification.
- Wind tower OEM experience (GE Vernova Vestas etc.).
- Familiarity with advanced inspection systems (photogrammetry SPC).
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
- ERP/PLM experience (Omega Intelex SAP).
