Job Description

Description

Reviews all pre-admissions inpatient and outpatient surgery admissions to ensure that complete and accurate financial information and documentation is available. Serves as a resource for coworkers physicians patients and other hospital personnel. Coaches and counsels assigned employees to an optimal level of performance. Assists with the ongoing process of Performance Management of assigned employees. Directs and supervises functions and activities in the area in the absence of manager. Interprets and implements policies procedures standards and regulations.



Responsibilities

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures objective quality assurance programs safety environmental and infection control standards.

Verifies all insurance benefits assigned to the hospital to determine if insurance coverage meets standards of admission as stated in hospital policy.

Reviews hospital admissions to ensure accurate financial and biographical data and documentation have been obtained and properly entered into the hospital records. Works with utilization review to coordinate PPO Medicaid and Medicare information.

Notifies collectors concerning admissions that do not meet the hospital financial policy criteria.

Compiles and distributes information regarding patients personal insurance and financial status.

Provides appropriate forms to billing and other departments.

Backs up cashiers when needed helps in payment coding discharges and writing cash receipts.

Maintains department records reports and files as required.

Answers all inquiries regarding patient accounts respecting patient confidentiality and legal limits on releasing information.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs.



Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: Hospital business office experience knowledge of insurance benefits and skill in interpreting policies.

Special Skills: Ability to use cash register; verbal and written communication skills.
