We currently have an opening for a Cloud FinOps Analyst

The position is designatedStatutory Exemptand is exempt from the State Human Resources Act


This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agencys remote work program but does require weekly onsite work


The Cloud FinOps Analyst is responsible for managing the billing and analysis for NC Department of Information Technology cloud providers (Amazon Web Services (AWS) Microsoft Azure Google Cloud Platform (GCP) etc..). This role will also help develop cost modeling strategies to align with customer needs. The Cloud FinOps Analyst will also work closely with the cloud operations team and business relationship management team to provide guidance for customers on how to manage cloud costs.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Create and analyze monthly billing data sets and work closely with finance billing team to invoice customers.
  • Participate in creating a cloud cost model strategy for mitigating future cloud costs that includes engagements with customers of NCDIT cloud environment.
  • Work collaboratively with cloud operations and business relationship management teams to explain technology finance and cloud economics including cloud cost model changes to customers.


About the Division

Business Operations is a key division within the NC Department of Information Technology Chief Deputy StateCIO/ Internal Operations organization and is responsible for providing IT services to state agencies local governments and educational institutions. Business Operations has four main responsibilities: service administration contract and vendor management internal compliance and financial cloud operations.

Financial Cloud Operations is a new function that includes:
  • Create a cloud cost model strategy for mitigating future cloud costs that includes engagements with customers of NCDIT cloud environment.
  • Understand cloud cost models to include full cloud native cloud and on-premises blended model and cloud managed or self-contained Independent Software Vendors (ISVs)
  • Create a cloud transition governance structure to manage the cost model to be deployed for all services moving to the cloud and life cycle of the transition.
  • Create a cloud cost predictive model for agency CFOs and CIOs.
  • Create dashboards for our services and customer environments that are in the cloud that shows real-time spend and cost factors.
  • Create and evolve dashboards as cloud financial models evolve in the industry. Provide guidance to customers executive leadership on how to manage costs in the cloud.
  • Provide guidance to implementation and procurement teams on terms approaches and needs with regards to cloud management.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

The following Management Preferences are not required but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree in computer science information technology or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in business consultation related to information technology products;
or
Associate degree in computer science information technology or closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience with a focus on business consultation related to information technology products;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
