Job Description
Receives direction from the Operating Room Manager Supervisor Specialty Team Leader and staff Registered Nurse. Works cooperatively with the surgeon PAs/NPs residents fellows and other allied health staff.
Performs delegated activities to assist in the care of the patients in the operating room/procedure rooms. Under the supervision of a RN and in collaboration with the surgeon the technologist functions primarily in the scrub role. Collaborates on developing best practice protocols and workflows for new procedures and transplants. Is responsible for selecting preparing and maintaining specific cardiac instrumentation equipment and supplies. Provides a safe efficient environment for the surgical patient. Applies and enforces principles of sterile technique implementing unique applications of solution prep and draping of the patient. Demonstrates the ability to be prepared to handle emergencies that may including quick thinking adaptability and solid skills to implement emergency protocols specific to cardiac procedures. Works flexible hours including days evenings nights weekends holidays and on-call expectations for cardiothoracic and transplant procedures.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
One year of clinical experience required. Cardiac experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure
Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
Surgical Technologists hired at the following locations prior to the identified dates are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA:
