Job Description

Walled Lake Area Special Education Paraprofessional/Job Mentor

Do you have a passion for mentoring individuals with barriers while on the job and supporting their success Do people naturally come to you to get help set goals fix problems and seek guidance to make good choices If this sounds appealing this may be the job you have been looking for!

Job Mentorsprovide a valuable service by supporting individuals to effectively complete job duties and achieve long-term employment. This job involves working with post-secondary students (18-26) in an adult transitional school program to learn job readiness skills soft skills and the technical job skills needed to meet employment goals. Locations are in Walled Lake and surrounding areas at various employer sites. Mentors will be working with students at employers sites in classroom settings in school and through virtual support meetings as needed. Hours are 8 am to 2 pm Monday through Thursday.

Preferred qualifications of a successful Job Mentor:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Experience working with individuals with barriers to employment
  • Ability to identify the needs of the client
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles
  • Positive mentoring and modeling skills
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Must have reliable transportation

What youll do as a Job Coach/Mentor:
  • Provide valuable service by supporting individuals to effectively complete job duties and achieve long-term employment in community-based settings
  • Assess the strengths of individuals and teach them to use them effectively
  • Guide clients in learning to complete job tasks
  • Help in the development of motivation and skills
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of clients
What you will need to be a Job Coach/Mentor:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Positive mentoring and modeling skills
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have a valid drivers license
Physical Requirements for a Job Coach/Mentor:
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to stoop bend and reach
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
