Family Planning Patient Service Representative / Medical Assistant

Family Planning handles confidential expert care for reproductive health. We are a Title X clinic meaning services are often no-cost or low-cost.

Family Planning offers safe effective birth control methods help planning a healthy pregnancy STD testing and treatment as well as prevention information and womens health exams & pap smear testing.

Hours are: Monday Wednesday Thursday and Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm and Tuesday 9:30 am to 6 pm.

This positions first priority is to serve as the Patient Service Representative (PSR). In the PSR role you will perform clerical duties including greeting patients performing check-in and check-out functions answering the telephone triaging telephone calls scheduling patients entering billing into the computer. This position will be also fill in as a Medical Assistant when needed. As a Medical Assistant (MA) you will perform a variety of patient care activities to provide clinical support and assistance to physicians nurse practitioners and medical staff. Responsible for assisting providers with diagnosing and/or treating disease/injury.

Greets all patients and guests in a friendly professional and efficient manner.
Complies with all agency policies and procedures concerning corporate compliance including privacy of protected health information.
Give patients proper forms with instructions on completion.
Schedule appointments for new and returning patients for the clinic. Maintains and coordinates providers schedules.
Performs other duties and activities as per skill level or incidental to work and responsibilities of this position.
Other duties as assigned by Manager or Senior Management.

Specialized medical assistant knowledge in the area of Family Planning/ Womens Health.
Accurately perform complete registration of patient clinical financial and demographic information in Athena. Collects consent forms if needed.
Responsible for the verification of insurance eligibility.
Answer multiple telephone lines in a timely manner.
Implement quality measure changes with clinical staff.
Ensures patient flow is maintained during clinic time.
Briefs the provider prior to entering the room.
Obtains lab specimens as ordered.
Assists in making referrals providing lab results to patients obtains and gives any prescription refill requests to providers and gives phone advice etc.
Knowledge of organizational policies regulations and procedures to administer patient care.

About you:
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients coworkers and public.
Ability to answer multiple phone lines in a timely and pleasant manner.
Ability to react calmly in emergency situations.
Ability to read understand and follow detailed written and oral communication.
Skill in identifying problems and making recommendations for solutions.
Knowledge of examination diagnostic and treatment procedures.
Knowledge of basic keyboarding and computer.
Skill in medical assistant duties.
Requires standing walking or sitting for long periods of time. Occasional bending stretching or lifting up to 40 pounds.
Requires the ability to work under stressful situations.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range or use of approved adaptive equipment

Special Requirements:
Ability to create and maintain an atmosphere which makes clients feel comfortable and welcome.
Skill in exercising initiative listening judgment discretion and decision-making to achieve family planning goals.

Typical Working Environment: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases toxic substance medicinal preparations and other conditions common to clinic environment. Tasks involve contact with blood or body substances.

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Prefer graduation from an accredited medical assistant program.

Experience: 1-2 years work experience in health care in clinic/office setting preferred.

Certificate/License:
CPR & TB certifications. CMA/RMA/CCMA is preferred.
