Implement and execute the short-term monthly schedule as set by the Manager Logsitics Sales Operations and Execution and Front Office in order to optimise the sales and operations plan for value maximisation whilst minimising risks and working within logistics capacity constraints. Manage the infrastructure requirements of PGMs Base Metals business and accountable for the operational performance and growth projects of Logistics. Maximise the net revenue by ensuring that contractual obligations for metal delivery are met cost effectively with minimum capital employed through effective management of internal supply demand pressures.
Execute the logistics plans in accordance with value targets and meeting customer service requirements
- Ensure that logistics commitments are effectively delivered within cost and time constraints to meet vessels and sales orders.
- Accountable for the logistics execution and tracking of Base Metal deliveries as per the Sales Tactical Plan (1-3 Months).
- Ensuring that all logistic documentation permits and service provider interactions are compliant with Valterra Platinum governance processes.
- Engaging with the production team to ensure effective movement of PGMs Base Metals.
- Monitoring of daily production dispatches and shipping performance and the provision of this information for invoicing purposes.
- Executing shipping and stock plans for export customers and stock plans for local customers.
- Preparation of daily logistics tracking information and month end reporting information and costing information for submission to management.
- Ensure product quality control through the logistics process.
- Monitor and record base metal dispatches and sales arising from the sale of intermediate products and optimise inventory levels.
- Expand distribution channels to include different locations and delivery modes while ensuring that the incremental associated costs (storage import duties insurance delivery costs etc.) are transparent and so can be priced in by the sales managers.
- Ensure that the packaging and movement of all products meets the regulatory requirements of each specific product.
- Work with Protection Services (Security) to ensure that product movement is undertaken in a way that minimises risk of theft or violence.
- Manage the operational performance of all freight forwarding road transport shipping and logistics service provider contracts.
- Enhance current shipping planning process such that
- The plan is transparent across all three offices (Singapore London and South Africa)
- The shipping plan and the sales plan reconcile across all metals
- Logistic service provider and storage location utilisation is optimised
- Effectively manage and communicate product form/grade availability versus commitments.
- Optimise associated finished goods stock (working capital) such that contractual sales commitments are managed with the appropriate blend of risk and capital employed.
- Manage operating cost ensuring ability to demonstrate that metals are being delivered at the appropriate blend of risk and cost. This includes:
- Ensuring that more than one logistics counterparty has been considered
- Minimising duplicate payments (i.e. insurance)
- Utilising logistic service providers and storage locations effectively
- Ensure Base Metals quality control through operations liaison .
- Monitor and record metal dispatches analysis and sales arising from the sale of intermediate products and optimise inventory levels.
Enhancement of RPMs Ability to Deliver Base Metals
- Maintain and update the sales and logistics systems (Including SAP /Aspect data alignment/ Optimove /Logistics Portal ) to deal with planning and execution.
- Accurate reporting on weekly and monthly basis
Risk Mitigation Measures
- Work with Front Office Sales Operations Plant Operations and logistics service providers to reduce risks in the logistic channel.
- Ensure logistics movement and storage of product is compliant with Valterra Platinum governance processes.
Performance Management
- Provide daily logistics performance update and reporting to Manager Logistics Sales Operations and Execution.
- Ensuring that all agreed logistics plans and objectives are being met and within budget.
Group Governance and Risk Management
- Execute logistics activities in alignment with Group Business Integrity and Governance policies.
- Escalate and communicate any contract compliance discrepancies logistics and other risk areas to line manager.
- Maintain accurate records within relevant systems.
Process Improvement
- Support continuous review processes to identify opportunities that will help maximise value.
- Support the implementation of key optimization projects to maximize value for the Marketing BU.
Back-Up
- Provides back-up to the Logistics Specialist PGMs and Base Metals.
Qualifications :
Degree qualified preferably in science commercial engineering or business
- High organisational skills and ability to multitask and prioritise conflicting deadlines
- Logistics experience within commodities industry -in particular containerized movements break bulk and freight forwarding
- An exceptional ability to communicate both verbally and in writing and to thereby positively influence results
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work across cultural boundaries
- Financial and analytical skills
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Previous international container logistics experience ideally in the metals or minerals industries
- Road and Rail movement experience
- Experience in the international import and export of commodities
- Experience managing inventory levels at a production facility
