Unitrans is looking for a proactive and organised Route Controller to help ensure the efficient and safe operation of our passenger transport this fast-paced role youll monitor vehicle movements respond to service disruptions and maintain real-time communication with drivers and key stakeholders.

Maintain physical control of the operating area during both peak and off-peak hours to ensure efficient service delivery.
Accurately complete Route Controller reports follow up on operational irregularities and ensure documentation is properly maintained.
Keep the Route Superintendent informed of operational status in the area and escalate issues to the Depot Manager as needed.
Ensure all shifts are covered timeously buses are clean and passengers receive the correct tickets and fares for their journeys.
Conduct inspections of driver fare collection ticket seller conduct and appearance and the cleanliness and condition of buses and loading points.
Consolidate daily and weekly performance reports for submission to the Route Superintendent.
Ensure timely driver bookings at sleeping grounds and oversee the punctual operation of all scheduled trips.
Enforce discipline in line with company policy and submit incident or disciplinary reports as required.
Investigate all accidents or incidents within the area of responsibility report them immediately via the appropriate WhatsApp group and submit formal accident reports.
Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements in service quality including vehicle allocation staff uniforms and customer-facing personnel.
Set performance targets for Drivers and Point Controllers providing ongoing feedback and training focused on punctuality passenger volumes safety and operational efficiency.
Education:
Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years experience in a transport operations or route control environment preferably within passenger transport services.
Experience in monitoring and coordinating vehicle movements and responding to operational incidents is essential.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Solid understanding of route scheduling on-time performance and service delivery standards.
Ability to work shifts weekends and public holidays as required.
Attention to detail with strong organisational and reporting skills.
Proficient in basic computer applications (e.g. MS Word Excel WhatsApp for real-time communication).
Knowledge of safety regulations and accident/incident reporting procedures is an advantage.
Other:
Valid drivers licence (preferred but not essential).
Willingness to work in both field and office-based environments.
Full-Time
