MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The IPC manager works across the hospital and ensures the implementation and maintenance of a functional Infection Prevention and Control programme at the hospital. They identify and manage infection risks and provide training to staff as well as reports to management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  1. Identify mitigate and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control
  2. Investigate analyse and interpret clinical data and act upon findings
  3. Manage and oversee IPC audits and ensure compliance with Statutory and Regulatory requirements.
  4. Identify training needs in the hospital and provide input in the development of training material
  5. Provide support with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager)
  6. Manage key stakeholder relations

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

Professional Nurse qualification and IPC qualification

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

3 years Professional Nurse experience in a hospital

1 year IPC link nurse experience

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Conducting a system analysis of healthcare-associated infections and institute preventative measures
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and accreditation standards
  • Interpretation and application of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions
  • Identification investigation management of outbreaks
  • Knowledge and experience in quality improvement methodology
  • Computer literacy (e.g. MS Office Package)
  • Report writing
  • Auditing (e.g. compliance to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning audits)
  • IPC surveillance and risk identification
  • Understanding and application of relevant IPC principles
  • Data analysis and interpretation
