Our client in the mining sector is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to fill three Shift Boss positions at underground coal mining operations in Sigma and Secunda. These roles offer an excellent opportunity for mining professionals with strong leadership skills safety awareness and operational knowledge to contribute to a high-performance team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise daily underground operations and lead production teams effectively
Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and carry legal accountability under 2.15.1 appointment
Conduct thorough daily underground inspections and enforce SHE standards
Drive productivity while maintaining cost-effective operations
Provide coaching mentorship and on-the-job training to crews
Ensure discipline safety compliance and operational excellence within your section
Oversee belt installation and seal construction
Prepare and submit accurate production and safety reports
Manage ordering of materials and obtain quotes for new projects
Report directly to the Operational Manager
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Shift Boss in underground coal mining (or 5 years experience as a Miner in underground coal environment)
Valid Underground Coal Blasting Certificate
Valid Drivers License
Appointment-ready for MHSA 2.15.1 legal responsibility
Valid Gas Testing Certificate (8 gases)
Valid First Aid Certificate
Demonstrated experience in belt and seal construction
Key Competencies:
Strong report writing and communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook)
Proven ability to motivate and manage teams
Target-driven with a focus on cost efficiency and quality
Resilient adaptable and able to work well under pressure
Strong organisational skills and commitment to safety
