We have an amazing opportunity for a retail company based in Brackenfell Cape Town for a Group Reporting Controller. To effectively manage the Balance Sheet fixed assets Capex function within Central Finance by monitoring and improving business and financial processes manage the financial health of the business leading the team in order that the financial planning function across the organisation meets the highest level of service. Producing financial reports and develop strategies and plan for the long-term financial goals of the business. To review Balance reconciliations and follow up on reconciling items in order to ensure accurate processing of transactions.

Responsibilities:

Monthly accounting:

  • Maintain Financial policies and ensure compliance thereof.
  • Design and implementation of financial processes and data flows to ensure efficient accurate and complete reporting.
  • Ensure that the Fixed Asset Register is maintained accurately complete and updated on a timely basis.
  • Ensure that monthly depreciation are calculated and posted correctly.
  • Review and present monthly Capex reporting.
  • Review of the Group consolidated balance sheet and monthly reconciliations.
  • Ensure that GL Recons are performed and that reconciling items are resolved on a timely basis.
  • Reviewing of general ledger entries.
  • Ensure income statement and balance sheet transactions are correctly accounted for and that all reconciliations are completed and signed off monthly for the Group.

Annual financial audit:

  • Statutory Reporting and audit preparation.
  • Actively involved in external audit engagements.
  • Perform and review IFRS 9 calculations and ECL on financial assets.
  • Perform and review of impairment of assets as required by IAS 36 (including assessment of impairment of right of use assets).

IFRS accounting and disclosure:

  • Provide input and technical IFRS support to the group.
  • Perform/review complex IFRS calculations for the AFS.
  • Perform and review IFRS disclosure for AFS.
  • Perform and review accounting of corporate transactions for the group.
  • Perform and review monthly IFRS 16 calculations and maintain IFRS 16 system on a monthly basis.

Reporting and Ad hoc responsibilities:

  • Compilation of ad hoc reports as required from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Must be a CA (SA) with preferably 1-2 years post articles experience
  • Working knowledge of IFRS
  • Strong reporting and accounting experience
  • 1-2 years retail experience advantageous
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders
  • Computer literacy in MS Office and Excel and PowerPoint to advanced levels
  • System design and implementation experience would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Planning skills and a self-starter
  • Accurate and analytical
  • Possess leadership attributes
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • High degree of (current) IFRS
  • Good time management skills showing the ability to manage self and prioritise tasks
  • High performer with a track record of delivering reliable results
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
