Job Description
We are seeking an Accountant for a completely remote 20 hours per week opportunity to support the financial management of both local and cross-border projects across Africa. This role will ensure accurate project costing compliance with financial and tax regulations and timely reporting to both internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring a solid understanding of project-based accounting principles be comfortable operating in multi-currency environments and have experience working in different African jurisdictions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Full project accounting lifecycle support for engineering construction or infrastructure projects
- Track project costs budgets forecasts and actuals against approved financial plans
- Partner with Project Managers to ensure alignment of financial data with project milestones
- Manage multi-currency project accounts including foreign exchange implications
- Oversee intercompany billing tax compliance and withholding tax issues for cross-border transactions
- Ensure VAT customs duties and import/export financial regulations are adhered to across African territories
- Prepare monthly and quarterly project financial reports for both internal review and external audit
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor payment certificates retention and milestone payments
- Coordinate with finance teams in host countries to ensure local compliance and financial governance
- Assist with project audits and provide supporting documentation as required
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- BCom Accounting or relevant finance degree (Honours preferred)
- Professional registration (e.g. SAIPA CIMA) is advantageous
- Portugeuse or Mandarin Speaking will be an advantage
- 5 years experience in project accounting or cost control
- Experience working with cross-border projects in Africa
- Strong knowledge of IFRS project-based revenue recognition and WBS/cost centres
- Proficiency in SAP Oracle or similar ERP systems
- Advanced Excel skills and financial modelling capabilities
