This post provides a great opportunity for a student working towards a degree or diploma in civil engineering to gain experience in the Transportation Development Management Team within the Planning Service. The successful candidate will bepredominantly responding to planning application consultations and assisting with Roads Construction Consent matters.
This vacancy is restricted to applicants who currently live in Fife. You must also be aged between 16 and 24 as at the 4 September 2025. Interview date 4 September 2025.
Applicants must hold or soon to be awarded a Degree Diploma or equivalent in civil engineering and be working towards becoming a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent.

You will be reporting to the Lead Officer within the Transportation Development Management team within Planning Services. Theposition is predominantly responding to planning application consultations and assisting with Roads Construction Consent matters.
Working within the Transportation Development Management Team will provide an opportunity to process and assess a range of applications for planning permission including preparing consultation responses to planning applications critical analysis of Roads Construction Consent applications accompanying the Clerk of Works in site inspections and preparing site inspection reports.
Applicants should have the ability to balance competing priorities. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of Microsoft computer packages and a keen interest in the built or rural environment.
The Person
Individuals should possess good communication skills and be able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. They should have a good working knowledge of current planning legislation government guidance and practice. Knowledge of both the Development Plan process and the Hierarchy of Developments and different types of Planning Applications are desirable whilst a positive attitude to customer care and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.
