The Dean of Student Engagement serves as a senior leader in the Division of Student Life and provides strategic vision oversight and leadership for all areas related to student involvement campus vibrancy and community belonging. The Dean plays a critical role in creating a Christ-centered culture of engagement where all studentsresidential commuter domestic international and underrepresentedcan thrive socially spiritually and holistically.
As a key architect of the student experience the Dean of Student Engagement oversees signature campus events student organizations social clubs Campus Recreation & Wellness and cultural programming. The Dean is also responsible for mentoring student leaders fostering a sense of belonging and cultivating partnerships across campus that align with the institutions mission to prepare learners for purposeful lives through rigorous academics and transformative experiences in Christ.
This role requires strong leadership a high capacity for collaboration and a heart for students from all walks of life.
Essential Duties:
- Provide university-wide vision and leadership for all student engagement belonging and unity initiatives.
- Advance a student engagement framework that supports spiritual growth and unity rooted in Christ.
- Lead evaluate and innovate Student Engagement programs including Student Activities Board (SAB) Campus Recreation & Wellness Social Clubs Student Organizations Student Government Association Office of Intercultural Development International Student Services and Commuter Student Services.
- Partner closely with Enrollment Management International Student Services and Office of Intercultural Development to support persistence and success of all students.
- Guide the growth of a campus-wide mentoring program and belonging assessment initiative.
- Directly supervise and support key team members including: Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness Assistant Dean of Student Engagement Assistant Director of Student Engagement Director of Office of Intercultural Development Commuter Student Coordinator International Student Services Coordinator
- Oversee advising of Student Government Association (SGA)
- Lead traditional programming such as New Student Orientation (Quest Week) Thanksgiving with the Community and the Student Leadership Retreat.
- Promote a welcoming campus community by supporting programs and events that celebrate culture background and identity.
- Partner with the Office of Intercultural Development (OID) to uplift all students and advance belonging and unity across campus.
- Strengthen commuter student engagement and international student experiences through administrative advocacy and collaborative program development.
- Lead the development of a comprehensive student engagement data strategy including: Standardized program evaluation tools Real-time feedback loops and focus groups Data-informed planning in collaboration with Institutional Research.
- Use data and student insights to evolve current practices and launch new relevant initiatives.
- Develop and maintain digital tools (e.g. calendars social media student involvement platforms) to increase visibility and participation in student life.
- Represent Student Life on campus-wide committees at key university events and in external leadership circles.
- Contribute to recruitment retention and student success efforts by supporting Lipscomb Fridays orientation events and campus tours.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs student engagement or higher education administration.

- A strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ and the mission vision and values of Lipscomb University.
- Masters degree required; Doctorate preferred in Higher Education Student Affairs or related field.
- Experience building inclusive programs that support student identity development unity and belonging.
- Exceptional organizational communication and supervisory skills.
- Proven ability to lead collaborative teams manage budgets and oversee multifaceted student life functions.
- Demonstrated success in student development event planning leadership coaching and cross-functional project management.
- Demonstrated competency in conflict management mediation or restorative practices; ability to navigate difficult conversations and support student and staff resolution efforts.
