Spark Academy in Lawrence MA is an innovative school dedicated to supporting students academic growth health and wellness. Sparks school day intertwines rigorous academic classes with invigorating athletics including dance karate and football. Sparks structures include high academic expectations small group advisories and a school-wide behavior management Spark Academy Counselor will work with our climate and counseling team to support student and family support services. Our counselor would help support our students socially and emotionally to gain access to resources skills and support that would help them to become self-sufficient learners and community members. The Spark Academy counselor would work in tandem with the counseling and climate team in order to help equip students with the skills they need to be successful connect students and families with the resources that will help them long term and both proactively and reactively support students in making positive choices in their actions in our school. The Spark Academy counselor plays a critical role in the design implementation and continuous improvement of our school-wide social emotional systems that serve to equip students with strong emotional foundations coping skills and when needed interventions for their well-being. They also support our 8th grade students in their high school application process. Social Emotional Learning: Building Foundational Skills
- Create and manage Lunch Bunch groups including targeted goals/ focus areas and scheduling
- Provide staff training and guidance in building SEL practices in their classes
- Meet one on one with students to support them in their growth
Social Emotional Learning: Conducting Targeted Interventions and Support- Provide support services to students with social emotional needs
- Manage and provide SEL portion of RTI process providing counseling services when appropriate
- Provide social emotional opportunities on a consistent planned basis for identified High Emotional Needs Students
- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with teachers and other affected staff with relevant strategies needed to support students and information that will help other adults support HENS.
- Building School Capacity: Increasing our Capacity as a School to Support Students and Families Effectively
- Identifying recruiting and investing community resources such as non-profits and interns to build our school SEL capacity
- Connect with families and community members to ensure all students and families have clear strong supports
- Providing coaching and training support to other staff working on SEL such as GEAR UP coordinator Purpose teacher climate staff and teachers.
Additional tasks as directed by administrationQualifications:- Strong and positive presence;
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred;
- Competence with Microsoft Word Excel technology etc.;
- An ability to thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment and a capacity to remain positive calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges;
- Evidence of self-motivation and ability to be a team player;
- Bachelors degree License in counseling is preferred;
- Preferred experience working with at-risk youth
