Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise daily machining operations including prioritizing tasks allocating resources and ensuring adherence to production schedules for custom components.
  • Perform advanced programming setup and operation of multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to create intricate parts from diverse materials with tight tolerances.
  • Utilize sophisticated CAD/CAM software to develop efficient machining strategies optimize material usage and reduce cycle times while maintaining precision.
  • Implement robust quality control procedures utilizing precision measuring instruments and potentially CMM to ensure all machined components meet exact engineering specifications and GD&T requirements.
  • Collaborate proactively with design engineering and assembly teams offering valuable input on design for manufacturability (DFM) and potential process improvements.
  • Mentor and train junior machinists sharing best practices troubleshooting techniques and fostering a strong culture of skill development and safety.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the machine shop identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency reduce waste and improve overall quality.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of machining processes tooling and inspection results.

Recommended Qualifications:

  • 5 years of proven experience as a CNC Machinist with a minimum of 2 years in a lead supervisory or senior capacity within custom automation special machine building or prototype manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in G-code and M-code programming and setting up multi-axis CNC machining centers (mills and lathes).
  • Strong proficiency in CAD/CAM software for generating and optimizing toolpaths.
  • Comprehensive understanding and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficient in the use of a wide range of precision measuring instruments.
  • Solid knowledge of various materials and their machining characteristics.
  • Exceptional leadership communication and interpersonal skills with a track record of effective team mentorship.
  • Proactive problem-solver with a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience contributing to or leading lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC machines.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software for reviewing designs.
  • Prior experience working closely with automation engineers or machine builders.
