The Cloud Operations Lead is a hands-on technical role responsible for administering enterprise-grade Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure to support the operations and maintenance of complex mission-critical IT systems for the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This position ensures continuous availability optimal performance and compliance of hybrid data center environments that serve both internal staff and external users across North Carolina.
This role provides operational leadership in cloud infrastructure management driving automation security optimization and cost-efficiency initiatives. The position involves daily oversight of AWS environments infrastructure lifecycle management and coordination with audit and compliance teams to address regulatory needs.
Key Duties Include:
Provision and maintain cloud infrastructure and environments using AWS.
Lead operational discussions across servers storage database and automation.
Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) CI/CD and orchestration tools.
Troubleshoot and resolve performance and availability issues in AWS environments.
Deploy patches and upgrades in Windows and Linux systems on AWS.
Oversee audit response and remediation for infrastructure platforms.
Support disaster recovery and business continuity operations.
Guide a team of operational staff prioritizing work and fostering collaboration.
Respond to production emergencies or public health-related incidents as needed.

The IT division (ITD) is one of the divisions that report to the Operational Excellence portfolio. The ITD division comprises six sections: Implementation and Operations Strategy and Workforce Enterprise Technology Vendor and Finance Data and Analytics and Cyber and Privacy. Demonstrated experience scripting with Python Bash or PowerShell for cloud infrastructure management.
