This position is responsible for performing technical and skilled electrical work in the installation maintenance testing and removal of electric meters metering installations and operation of municipal utility facilities. Reports to the Electric Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs routine testing maintenance installation and removal of electric meters. Programs and maintains AMI and AMR meter systems.
Performs installation cleaning testing calibrating repairing and maintenance of electric meters related to the Citys metering infrastructure.
Reads meters and collects data; processes work orders; receives work order requests and assigns numbers.
Tests services and repairs utility production substation distribution service and control equipment as required.
Prepares and maintains utility record systems associated with electric meters and installations.
Determines types of meters and related material necessary to accurately record electric consumption install replace wire and provide a variety of meters and metering equipment.
Investigates and assesses customer complaints and issues coordinates with utility billing and meter-reading staff service orders and other issues related to metering services for electric.
Inspects troubleshoots and tests electric meters and metering infrastructure and related systems including programming electric meters to ensure proper meter operation and accuracy.
Collects and provides customer usage data; perform re-reads move-in/move-out and disconnect service if necessary; maintains meter instrument histories.
Responds to emergency calls during utility failures.
Assists with call-out for emergency service on an as needed basis with electric lineman staff.
Operates and maintains assigned vehicles; initiates daily safety and general vehicle appearance checks cleans vehicle and schedules preventative maintenance service.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 3-4 years of related experience in experience in the installation testing and maintenance of electric meters and related metering equipment or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job. Associates degree in electrical and electronic science preferred.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid Class A or B CDL drivers license is required.
Must have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as defined by City Personnel Policy.
Special Requirements:
Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires pre-employment medical evaluation and satisfactory results from a pre-employment alcohol and controlled substance testing in accordance DOT federal regulations.
This position is deemed safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand for long periods. The employee is required to walk and climb stairs climb step ladders or balance on structures talk or hear smell stoop kneel crouch crawl and enter confined spaces.
Work requires regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work that may involve the lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials.
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors sounds taste odor depth texture and visual cues or signals. s. Specific hearing abilities required include being able to hear alarms normal interpersonal conversations radio and telephone conversations. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such dust pollen odors wetness humidity temperature and weather extremes fumes traffic hazards animal/wildlife attacks or rude/irate customers risk of electrical shock and vibration.
