DescriptionThe Senior Speech Pathology Clinical Specialist is an advanced level clinician who evaluates and treats patients referred for speech language cognitive and dysphagia dysfunction. This individual mentors and may supervise less experienced Speech-Language Pathologists and performs in a lead capacity.
Responsibilities- Administers speech/language and or cognitive evaluations tests or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment.
- Evaluates speech/language test results and medical or background information to determine speech impairment and treatment. Counsels and instructs patients concerning communication disorders.
- Provides patients families and caregivers with ongoing counseling and education to facilitate communication.
- Assists patients in developing and recovering reliable communication and swallowing skills to allow them to fulfill their educational vocational and social roles.
- Conducts speech pathology in-service training programs for rehabilitation staff and mentors less experienced SLP staff.
- Records and maintains reports of speech or swallowing treatments.
- Formulates and implements group therapy programs to address the needs of impaired patients and their families.
- Participates in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new speech pathology or speech/cognitive/language /dysphagia treatment methods or technology.
- Performs other related duties.
Qualifications- Masters degree or equivalent education in speech-language pathology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech and Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) - American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
- 7 years of progressive speech-language pathology experience.
