Job Summary
Under minimal supervision provide expert-level experience in the repair calibration and maintenance of medical equipment instrumental and support systems used in healthcare delivery. Execute professional-level inventory assessments/audits and preventive maintenance of medical equipment. Provide remedial corrective maintenance and maintain documentation of all service tests and maintenance performed on clinical equipment.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associates degree in electronics or biomedical equipment technology is preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of four years related experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment is preferred.
Functional Demands
Duties/Responsibilities
Repair install maintain calibrate and inspect complex medical equipment instrumentation and systems.
Assign routine repairs inspections and installations to subordinates and observe their performance.
Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment devices and systems and monitor completion of preventive maintenance activities performed by outside vendors.
Review outcomes of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.
Supervise and instruct biomedical equipment maintenance personnel in the safe use application testing preventive maintenance and repair of all types of clinical equipment technologies and systems if needed and requested by Director/Manager.
Recommend new equipment and testing procedures.
Maintain accurate inventory tracking both the addition and the deactivation of clinical equipment.
Maintain documentation on new equipment inspections and equipment repairs and failures.
Assist manage and monitor third-party repairs.
Provide in-service educational programs on the use of equipment.
Collaborate with Information Systems to ensure Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and connectivity of biomedical devices.
Understand and comply with Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations.
Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of electronic circuitry and technical aspects of the operations repair and maintenance of electronic equipment.
Knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.
Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections.
Ability to run diagnostic programs.
Ability to interpret schematics wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.
Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs calibration and tests.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment to push/pull equipment carts and to kneel stand bend and reach during equipment repair.
Skill in testing electronic equipment.
Skill in manual dexterity hand-to-eye coordination and color vision.
