Description

Position Title: Development Manager

The Development Manager plays a vital role in advancing the organizations mission and ensuring financial sustainability. This position is responsible for the seamless execution of fundraising initiatives including management and oversight of the organizations annual fund managing grants maintaining the donor database and supporting prospect research and identification. The Development Manager works closely with the Director of Development and other key stakeholders to ensure fundraising efforts are aligned with organizational goals and strategic priorities.

Core Responsibilities

1. Annual Fund Management

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for the Annual Fund including direct mail email campaigns digital fundraising and donor appeals.
  • Collaborate with communications and marketing teams to create compelling content and materials that drive donor engagement and giving including FAAs quarterly newsletter.
  • Monitor campaign performance analyze donor trends and make data-driven adjustments to optimize results.
  • Coordinate annual fund segmentation messaging and stewardship plans to retain and grow the donor base.
  • Plan and implement donor acquisition and renewal efforts including special initiatives and year-end campaigns.

2. Grant Management

  • Oversee and manage the organizations grant calendar to ensure timely submission of proposals renewals and final reports.
  • Establish and maintain systems and processes for tracking grant deadlines reporting requirements and deliverables.
  • Coordinate internally with program and finance staff to gather necessary data and documentation for submissions and reporting.
  • Ensure that all grant requests and reports are completed in accordance with funder guidelines and organizational standards.

  • Maintain a comprehensive and organized archive of all grant-related documents for auditing and institutional knowledge.

3. Donor Database and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate donor and gift records using the organizations donor management software.
  • Process and acknowledge all contributions promptly ensuring proper documentation and donor preferences are respected.
  • Generate and analyze reports to support development strategies and evaluate campaign performance.

4. Gift Processing

  • Accurately record and process all incoming donations (checks credit cards online etc.).
  • Prepare thank-you letters and tax receipts in a timely and donor-centric manner.
  • Monitor restricted and unrestricted gifts for proper tracking and reporting.

5. Prospect Research

  • Conduct research on prospective donors including individuals corporations and foundations.
  • Develop donor profiles and briefings to support solicitation and engagement strategies.
  • Monitor fundraising trends and identify new funding opportunities.

Qualifications

Skills and Attributes for Success

To be successful in this role the ideal candidate will possess:

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in donor database/CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce Raisers Edge DonorPerfect).
  • Strong research and analytical skills particularly in grant and prospect research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to craft compelling proposals and donor correspondence.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel and Word.

  • Results-driven and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in communications marketing fundraising or a related field.
  • Minimum 35 years of experience in development or fundraising including annual fund management and donor stewardship.
  • Familiarity with fundraising strategies for nonprofit organizations of varying sizes.
