Investor Relations mandate is to communicate the Banks financial performance and strategy to the investment community.

The Director Investor Relations (IR) plays a key role in the communication of the Banks financial performance and strategy to the investment community including sell-side analysts buy-side investors and rating agencies. The Director engages with internal and external stakeholders and is responsible for the preparation review and delivery of key presentation materials and messaging. Relationship management with key stakeholders is also an important part of this role. Stakeholders include Executive Management colleagues from other business lines and business functions (Global Finance Global Risk Management Global Communications etc.) as well as external stakeholders such as equity analysts (buy-side and sell-side) institutional portfolio managers retail investors and rating agencies.

The Director role requires strong excel skills including experience with financial modelling and a strong grasp of excel best practices attention to detail is key given the volume of analysis required as well as a demonstrated ability to problem solve effectively as well as the ability to train and support the team in building their excel skills critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Is this role right for you In this role you will:

  • Provide Quarter end reporting -- a key component of the Investor Relations communication strategy.
  • Be a contributor to the preparation review and delivery of the external deliverables including analyst presentation marketing deck conference call scripts etc.
  • Be a key contributor to all internal quarter-end deliverables including tracking analyst estimates and sentiment analyzing market expectations vs results competitive analysis performing ad hoc financial analysis for the executive team identifying potential investor/analyst questions etc.
  • Work on the quarter-end process a highly time sensitive matter and requires a very strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Liaise with other departments of the Bank and managing gathering compiling checking and critically analyzing a large volume of information.
  • Takes a leadership role in the management of the rating agency relationships including taking the lead on preparing materials for the annual rating agency reviews.
  • Manage relationships with all the major rating agencies; S&P Moodys Fitch and Morningstar DBRS.
  • Participate in equity and fixed income conferences and institutional marketing meetings and roadshows.
  • Lead in the preparation of materials and oversees the team and partners to ensure detailed and documented logistics and execution plans.
  • Be responsible for reviewing and summarizing estimates and results and should be familiar with the terminology valuation methods financial statements and able to assess and distill the information in a concise manner and support the development of the teams knowledge of these areas.
  • Be responsible for providing guidance to the Senior Managers and Analysts who are performing the financial analysis.
  • Play a key role in the organization and execution of Investor Days and stakeholder communication related to periodic corporate developments including acquisitions divestitures executive leadership developments etc.
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Banks risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabanks Values its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational compliance AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed Wed love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • 10 years of progressive experience in accounting finance or capital markets roles
  • Prior experience within Canadian banking industry understanding of capital markets and valuation principles is a must
  • CPA CA MBA and/or CFA designation
  • Excellent organizational and communication (written verbal presentation) skills
  • Strong financial analysis skills with solid understanding of the balance sheet and income statement
  • Strong understanding of financial statements research reports and valuation.
  • Strong understanding of financial disclosure and experience performing competitive benchmarking
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Self-motivated; able to work in a team and independently
  • Ability to exercise independent discretion on matters of significance
  • Proficiency with MS Excel is mandatory
  • knowledge of Bloomberg/FactSet/CapIQ is an asset
