Job Description
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff Research Assistant to support ongoing research in the biomechanics of the brain. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers neuroscientists and clinicians to investigate the mechanical properties of brain tissue traumatic brain injury (TBI) mechanisms and related neurobiological processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the design of computational modeling studies
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as rheometers microscopes and mechanical testing devices
Collect analyze and interpret experimental data using software such as MATLAB Python or R
Assist in the preparation of reports presentations and manuscripts for publication
Ensure compliance with lab safety IACUC and institutional protocols
Contribute to literature reviews and protocol development
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in biomedical engineering Mechanical Engineering Neuroscience or related field
12 years of laboratory experience preferably in biomechanics neurobiology or tissue engineering
Familiarity with biological tissue handling and mechanical testing techniques
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational and communication abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with finite element modeling (e.g. ABAQUS ANSYS FE Bio)
Programming skills (MATLAB Python etc.)
Prior experience working brain imaging techniques
Knowledge of histology and immunohistochemistry

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act the hourly base range for this position is $35.00 $37.50. This range represents the Universitys good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the positions scope and responsibilities the candidates experience education skills internal equity market data and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget qualifications and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation such as incentives stipends or other applicable pay components.
