The salary offer for this position is $24.34/Hr. - $27.03 Commensurate with experience.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position performs skilled work in areas of maintenance repair and troubleshooting as necessary on equipment associated with the operation of water/wastewater treatment plants and supporting sites. Work involves performing tests to determine operating efficiency of equipment; inspecting plant and equipment; maintaining and repairing equipment; reading blueprints manuals and specifications; maintaining and repairing piping and associated building structure; troubleshooting and making needed repairs or rebuilds; and maintaining a working vehicle set of tools and parts related to the various tasks. This position may document readings obtain quotes; order parts; prepare reports ensure safety procedures are followed; and maintain clean work areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintains and repairs mechanical equipment associated with the operation of water treatment plants wastewater treatment plants raw water pump stations remote distribution pump stations and tank sites and sewage lift stations.
Inspects plant pump stations tank sites and booster stations.
Performs preventative maintenance. Examples of preventative maintenance include greasing cleaning and exercising equipment checking belts and connections changing oil replacing and rebuilding components on pumps motors valves drives hydraulic or air cylinders etc.
Performs corrective maintenance. Examples of corrective maintenance include the troubleshooting repair removal and installation of pumps motors drives valves compressors chemical feed systems odor control systems screens filters plumbing and auxiliary plant equipment.
Conducts monthly inspections on vehicles power tools fork lifts crane truck stationary cranes and safety retrieval systems.
Conducts tests to determine operating efficiency of equipment.
Maintains related records including equipment status hours worked chemicals and materials used and costs.
Fabricates parts as needed. Paints and replaces concrete.
Responds to emergency situations outages and equipment failure.
Performs shop and vehicle housekeeping.
Operates cranes trucks forklifts as other equipment as needed.
Coordinates activities with operation plant and re-pump facilities.
Follows safety policies and procedures; maintains safety equipment; and follows lock out/tag out and confined space work procedures.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
High school diploma or GED from an accredited school; desires college courses in a relatedfield.
OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job-specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities to successfully perform the
essential job duties.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Having one of the following certifications is preferred:
NC Grade I Maintenance Technologist Certification
NC Grade 2 Maintenance Technologist Certification
NC Grade 3 Maintenance Technologist Certification
NC Grade 4 Maintenance Technologist Certification
Licenses Certifications or Registrations:
Requires valid North Carolina or South Carolina Drivers License.
Requires NC One Water Maintenance Technologist I certification or must obtain certificationwithin 30 months.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of computerized maintenance management software.
Knowledge of operating and repairing related equipment.
Knowledge of municipal wastewater and certain chemicals.
Skill in mechanical and electrical repairs.
Skill in using hand and power tools.
Ability to obtain a City driving authorization.
Ability to operate various types of cranes and other motorized equipment.
Ability to work as a team member.
Ability to follow safety regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is very heavy and requires applying up to 20 pounds of force constantly applying 50 pounds of force frequently and exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
Additionally the following physical abilities are required: balancing climbing crouchingfeeling grasping handling perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels distinguishing amongsounds kneeling lifting mental acuity pulling pushing reaching repetitive motion speakingstanding stooping expressing ideas by spoken word shouting above noises visual acuity in data/color/observations/equipment/inspections and walking.
Compensation:
Compensation commensurate with the level of certification qualifications and experience.
NC Grade I Maintenance Technologist Certification - $24.34/hr
NC Grade 2 Maintenance Technologist Certification - $26.83/hr
NC Grade 3 Maintenance Technologist Certification - $29.58/hr
NC Grade 4 Maintenance Technologist Certification - $32.61/hr
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Citys Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes but is not limited to: reference checks social security verification education verification criminal conviction record check and if applicable a credit history check sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidates written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process candidates may be asked to take a skills test and/or participate in other assessments.
