Job Description

POSITION:Head Custodian

LOCATION: Oliver MiddleSchool

HOURS:8 Hours Per Day (8:00am - 8:00pm - hours may vary)

CALENDAR:260 Days Per Year (August - July)

SALARY:$23.66- $32.75 Per Hour(Range G)

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT/S:The position of Head Custodian Oliver Middle School is done for the purpose/s of maintaining a comfortable attractive sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings classroom activities and events; minimizing property damage loss and liability exposure ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe proper and timely manner and directing assigned custodians as necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings classroom activities and events.
  • Cleans school facilities (e.g. classrooms offices multipurpose rooms grounds etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a comfortable sanitary safe and attractive environment.
  • Delivers a variety of items (e.g. supplies mail packages furniture etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate parties.
  • Directs personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting shift requirements.
  • Informs site personnel and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities.
  • Plans schedules trains supervises and inspects the work of other custodians assigned to the building.
  • Assists the administration by:
    1. evaluating regular custodians work
    2. preparing cost estimates and budget requests
    3. ordering supplies parts and materials
    4. helping with recruitment and interviewing as requested
    5. implementing energy conservation policies.
  • Possesses knowledge of heat plant operation and low pressure steam equipment.
  • Communicates effectively both written and orally with all building personnel students and parents. Possess the ability to prepare and present oral or written reports as needed.
  • Understands and follows district policies and regulations relating to area of responsibilities.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Correct errors and omissions.
  • Procures equipment supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
  • Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Make minor repairs of furniture and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.Request assistance on complex repair issues from maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience Required:Prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility preferably in a school setting.
  • Skills Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills to use cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.

Knowledge of safe methods and use of cleaning materials equipment and supplies safe work practices district policies and regulations.

Abilities to stand for prolonged periods follow oral and written instructions work independently with minimal supervision perform a variety of tasks understand and execute oral and written instructions. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling fingering talking/hearing conversations near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation.

Ability to speak a second language preferred.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent.

LICENSES BONDING AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
