The Solid Waste Division Manager will lead Altas Solid Waste Division overseeing a team of engineers scientists and technical specialists. This position is responsible for managing solid waste projects developing client relationships expanding service offerings and ensuring the successful delivery of technical work. The ideal candidate will bring leadership technical expertise and strategic vision to grow Altas solid waste services across the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West.
Responsibilities Include:
- Develop and implement a strategic plan to launch and grow Altas solid waste division.
- Identify service gaps and emerging market opportunities in solid waste management particularly in municipal industrial and tribal sectors.
- Define service offerings including solid waste planning permitting operations support landfill/transfer station design and materials recovery strategies.
- Provide subject matter expertise in solid waste regulations design permitting and compliance.
- Oversee or contribute to technical deliverables including proposals reports and plans.
- Ensure quality control and adherence to industry standards and environmental regulations.
- Develop and manage division budgets staffing forecasts and project schedules.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjust strategy to meet division goals.
- Collaborate with Alta leadership to integrate solid waste services into cross-disciplinary projects.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships with public agencies tribal governments and private-sector partners.
- Lead business development efforts including proposal writing presentations and networking to secure new contracts.
- Represent Alta at industry events conferences and stakeholder meetings.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering Civil Engineering Environmental Science or related field.
- 8 years of relevant experience in solid waste planning design permitting or operations.
- 3 years of experience in a supervisory team lead or management role.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months (preferred).
- Proven experience with public-sector clients and regulatory agencies.
- Strong understanding of federal state and local environmental and solid waste regulations.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Environmental Engineering Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience with landfill design and permitting waste characterization studies or circular economy planning.
- Business development and proposal writing experience.
- Excellent communication leadership and project management skills.
- 40-Hour or 24-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training (per 29 CFR 1910.120) with current 8-hour refresher training
