Overview
Join a mission-driven non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center dedicated to saving native Florida wildlife. As a Certified Veterinary Technician you ll work closely with veterinarians ICU managers and the animal care team to provide exceptional medical support guide students and volunteers and help ensure injured sick and orphaned wildlife have the best chance at recovery and release.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support in clinical patient care under the direction of veterinarians and ICU management.
- Supervise and train students staff and volunteers on ICU protocols and patient care procedures.
- Perform triage exams rechecks diagnostics radiographs wound care venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement.
- Manage daily ICU care including feedings treatments and patient husbandry.
- Conduct diagnostic testing (CBC fecal exams chemistry I-Stat) for avian mammal and reptile species.
- Maintain and prepare surgical suites assist during surgeries and ensure all equipment is cleaned and sterilized.
- Monitor anesthesia and patient recovery training others in anesthesia protocols.
- Keep accurate and timely medical records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Support neonatal care rehabilitation processes and wildlife release coordination.
- Assist in educational presentations campus tours and student teaching rounds.
- Participate in collaborative projects with partner organizations as directed.
- Uphold hospital cleanliness and operational readiness.
- Perform other duties as assigned with cross-training in other clinic areas.
Qualifications
- Current Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT) credential required.
- Prior experience in wildlife rehabilitation strongly preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook.
- Strong communication teaching and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work efficiently independently and handle multiple priorities.
- Positive professional and adaptable attitude.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand walk climb or balance for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Must maintain regular and punctual attendance.
