About the Unit
Jewish Hospital is the only five organ plus hand transplant center in the region and the Emergency Department is the gateway for many of these patients. We care for over 27000 patients per year with a focus on neuro cardiac and pulmonary patients as well as caring for the student athletes of the University of Louisville. Jewish Hospital ED is a 36 bed ED and Cardiac Observation Center with an ability to care for any level of acuity that crosses our threshold.

Jewish Hospital part of UofL Health is an internationally renowned high-tech tertiary referral center developing leading-edge advancements in hand and microsurgery heart and lung care orthopedics and sports medicine neuroscience organ transplantation and outpatient care. The hospital is the site of the worlds first successful hand transplant and AbioCor implantable replacement heart procedures in addition to the first trial of adult cardiac stem cells in chronic heart failure. Jewish Hospital continues to be recognized for its specialized heart care procedures including the implantation of ventricular assist devices (VAD) and transcatheter aortic valve replacement. The UofL Health Trager Transplant Center is in a select group of hospitals nationwide that perform heart lung liver kidney pancreas and hand transplantation. The center also includes a Pancreas Disease Center a GI Motility Clinic and Advanced Heart Failure and VAD programs.
Position Summary and Purpose
The nursing manager is responsible and accountable for the operations of assigned unit(s) and/ or department(s) a 24-hour basis including fiscal management staff development and resource management with the ultimate goal of achieving the highest quality safe patient care.
Essential Functions:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients and conditions served
Supervises assigned professional technical and clerical staff of the department/unit to ensure the quality of work
Develops staffing patterns and ensures availability of sufficient staff to meet patients care needed
Works to develop and retain highly skilled and well-rounded staff including hiring orientating training directing work evaluating performance and assuring clinical competency.
Contributes to the financial viability of the organization including managing productivity and budgeting process
Contributes to the effective management of the department including supplies equipment space and technology
Responsible for accurate and timely delivery of various reports including staff schedules payroll labor productivity audits incident reports and others as assigned
Shift Requirements:
Shift Length (in hours): 8 hours average

Overtime Required: Infrequently Sometimes Often n/a (exempt position)
* May be required to work in the department/unit if staffing is below critical requirements
Other Functions:
Assists the organization in maintaining and achieving its goals related to licensure regulatory and accreditation standards
Maintains effective working relationships communication and collaborative decision making with medical staff other departments leaders staff and others
Implements and supports quality improvement activities for the department/unit
Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
Maintains compliance with all company policies procedures and standards of conduct
Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
(Education Experience Licensure and Certification)
Education:
Bachelors of Science in Nursing (required)
Masters of Science Nursing Specialty or Nursing Administration. Other Masters degrees such as business or healthcare administration will be considered (preferred)
Experience:
Minimum experience years and type
o For Internal candidates: At least four (4) years of experience in an acute care setting preferably an academic medical center (required)
o For External candidates: At least five (5) years of experience in an acute care setting preferably an academic medical center (required)
o For Peace Hospital (all candidates): At least three (3) years of experience in an acute care setting (required)
o For Frazier Rehab(all candidates): Four (4) years of experience in rehab and two (2) years with pediatric patients (required)
Prior management experience preferred
Licensure:
Active Kentucky Registered Nurse License or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
Certification:
Professional certification in either a leadership or clinical specialty area(required)
If certification not present upon hire it is to be obtained within three (3) years of hire date (required)
