Required Education and/or Experience:
A masters degree or Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field;
Strong knowledge of biological principles with a commitment to keeping up with advancements in the field.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Previous teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level;
Experience with laboratory instruction.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and deliver lectures lessons and laboratory exercises on molecular cell and developmental biology microbiology genetics or related topics;
Develop and implement course syllabi assignments and assessments;
Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment encouraging student engagement and participation;
Provide individualized attention to students who require additional academic support;
Create and grade quizzes exams lab reports and other assignments;
Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work to encourage academic growth;
Monitor and report on student progress offer assistance as needed;
Oversee laboratory sessions ensuring safety and proper procedure;
Demonstrate and guide students through hands-on experiments and activities;
Ensure lab equipment and materials are prepared and maintained;
Participate in curriculum review and development to ensure that course content aligns with current scientific knowledge and institutional goals;
Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary or cross-departmental initiatives;
Advise students on academic progress course selection and career opportunities within biology-related fields;
Mentor students on research projects and independent studies;
Stay current with developments in the field of biology by participating in relevant professional development workshops and conferences;
Pursue opportunities for community engagement (if applicable);
Assist with departmental meetings events and academic activities;
Participate in institutional committees as needed;
Engage in outreach and recruitment activities for prospective students (if applicable);
Leading the program recommendation implementation and enforcement of academic policies;
Proposing and implementing curriculum improvements including submitting and overseeing the review of CCFs and PCFs and representing the program on relevant curriculum committees;
Providing administrative advising and logistical support for faculty and students in the program;
Recommending and monitoring the schedule of program courses and course assignments;
Play a major role in Graduate Teaching Assistant assignments and training curriculum assessment transfer credits etc;
Certifying students for graduation and managing the graduation checkout process;
Coordinating program review assessment and reporting activities including ADHE and institutional assessments;
Supporting the chair and handling additional administrative tasks as requested;
Monitoring student progress; assigning faculty advisors; processing course registration override requests; and reviewing and approving course transfer requests.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
An ability to explain complex biological concepts in an accessible and engaging manner;
Proficient with educational technology (e.g. learning management systems online resources lab equipment);
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty staff and students;
Commitment to student-centered teaching and active learning strategies.
