You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThis position will be the Director of the Wisconsin Centers for Nanoscale Technology (WCNT) which includes the Nanoscale Fabrication Center (NFC) the Soft Materials Characterization Laboratory (SMCL) and the Nanoscale Imaging and Analysis Center (NIAC). The centers support a broad range of research across UW-Madison by students staff faculty and by external academic and industry users. The center director works with faculty staff and the CoE Deans office to develop and maintain the strategic plan for the facilities equipment and staffing of the WCNT. The WCNT director reports to the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and is responsible for all aspects of managing the WCNT.
Assists in obtaining funding for the research unit by leading and participating in internal and external proposals for equipment and providing input to faculty and staff research proposals
Proactively communicates with faculty regarding research needs

The starting salary for this position is $115000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience using advanced characterization tools and/or micro-fabrication technologies with experience in one or more of the following areas: high-resolution metrology instrumentation soft materials instrumentation materials fabrication and characterization micro/nanoscale device fabrication and semiconductor fabrication.
Ten years of experience post BS degree 8 years of experience post MS degree or 5 years of experience post PhD working in scientific and research environments including the private sector national laboratories and/or higher education with a focus on one or more of the following areas: high-resolution metrology instrumentation soft materials instrumentation materials fabrication and characterization micro/nanoscale device fabrication and semiconductor fabrication.
At least two-years of experience managing personnel
Experience managing complex budgets
Excellent communication skills written and verbal
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple groups and stakeholders
Experience in maintenance and operations of instrumentation and facilities for high-resolution metrology instrumentation soft materials instrumentation materials fabrication and characterization micro/nanoscale device fabrication and semiconductor fabrication.
Experience in proposal development and writing
Experience working as a staff member in a shared use research facility
Experience managing a shared use research facility
Required bachelors degree in engineering the physical sciences or an interdisciplinary program focused on micro/nano device fabrication
Preferred masters degree or Ph.D. degree in engineering the physical sciences or an interdisciplinary program focused on micro/nano device fabrication
